Sunday

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.– The NHRA North Central division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series finished up yesterday at Beech Bend Raceway Park with a winner's circle celebration recognizing champions in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, as well as Top Dragster, Top Sportsman, Comp Eliminator, Stock, Super Comp and the rest of the classes that encompass the nationwide series.

In the Top Alcohol Dragster final round, Josh Hart, Ocala, Fla. made the winning run of 5.319 seconds, 272.83 mph. Robin Samsel, Marion, Ind., had a runner pass of 5.376 seconds, 263.10 mph. Andy Bohl, Racine, Wis., made a winning pass of 5.596 seconds, 263.87 mph taking home the victory in the Top Alcohol Funny Car final round. Dan Pomponio, Berlin, N.J., hit a runner up pass of 5.745 seconds, 252.61mph.

Troy Galbraith, Indianapolis, Ind., and Jim Kimbrough, Pace, Fla., kept the audience on the edge of their seats as the Comp Eliminator final round came down to the wire. Galbraith edged out Kimbrough , running  6.833, 191.08 to the runner-up’s 6.948, 191.76.

In Top Sportsman class, fan fans watched Mick Snyder, Demotte, Ind., score the win over Sandy Wilkins, Mount Ulla, N.C. Snyder posted a winning run of 6.214 seconds, 220.62 mph, making this his first ever final round and win in Top Sportsman.  Jim Prevo, Mundelein, Il., eeked out the victory over John Deakins, Louisville, Ky., in Spitzer Race Cars the Top Dragster final round. Prevo put up a winning run of 6.323 seconds, 198.32 mph; the win is Prevo's second in three finals, all in Top Dragster.

The other drivers visiting the winner's circle were Andy Kronenbitter, Lancaster, Ohio., in Super Stock; Andrew Hill, Royal Oak, Mich., in Stock; Todd Senseney, Clarksville, Tenn., in Super Comp; Val Harmon,  Luling, La., in Super Gas; and Rob Kropfeld, Hamilton, Ohio., in Super Street.

The specialty events winner's circle saw Rick Brown, Lebanon, Ohio., in Spitzer Race Cars/Indy Gear Comp Shootout; Jacob Elrod, Harrod, Ohio., in Moser Sportsman Shootout; Michael Shelton, New Carlisle, Ohio., in Draw/RFC Super Comp Shootout Presented By Moser Engineering; Craig Porter, Silver Spring, Md., in Draw/RFC Super Gas Shootout Presented By Moser Engineering; and Jeremy Schell, Lawrenceburg, Ky., in Super Street Shootout Presented By Moser Engineering.

Saturday

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Reigning Super Gas National Champion Jacob Elrod collected $5,000 in winning the Moser Sportsman Shootout at Beech Bend Raceway Park and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. The Harrod, Ohio, racer was near perfect on the tree (.004 second reaction time), then clocked in at 6.924 seconds at 132.22 mph in his ’92 Corvette to hold off Mark McDonald, Boonville, Ind., with a 4.353, 164.21 in his ’67 Mustang.

Elrod was one of two wild card entries that were drawn to fill out the 16-car field that puts racers in seven different classes in head to head competition over a 1/8th mile track. Top Sportsman entry, McDonald pocketed $2000 for his runner up finish.

In the Spitzer Race Cars / Indy Gear Comp Shootout it was Rick Brown, Lebanon, Ohio, capturing his first Comp Shootout win as he downed Greg Kamplain, Brownsburg, Ind., with a pass of 8.255, 162.12.

In final qualifying for the NHRA Lucas Oil Series North Central Division Finals it was Josh Hart and Andy Bohl leading their fields in Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car respectively.   Hart, Ocala, Fla., went 5.305 seconds at 271.95  and Bohl, Racine, Wis., covered the famed Beech Bend quarter-mile in 5.654, 261.22 in his ’16 Camaro.

Shanna Snyder is on top on the Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster as is Mick Snyder in the Brodix/Steve Schmidt Top Sportsman.  Shanna went 6.018 at 234.09 in her dragster for the No. 1 spot and Mick’s lap of 6.229, 229.98 put him at the head of the list.

Other racers leading their fields into Sunday’s eliminations are Brian Browell, Lafayette, Ind., in Comp Eliminator; Larry Zavala Jr., Montebello, Calif., in Super Stock; and Britt Cummings, Hammond, La., in Stock.

Friday

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Racing kicked off today for the NHRA Lucas Oil North Central Finals with more than 500 racers expected to battle the quarter mile this weekend at Beech Bend Raceway Park.

The division’s Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster, Brodix/Steve Schmidt Top Sportsman and Comp Eliminator classes took to the track today for qualifying and will make final qualifying passes on Saturday at 11:30 and 3:00 p.m.  Super Stock and Stock, along with the super index classes ran qualifying and time trials today, which will continue tomorrow, followed by early rounds of eliminations and final eliminations on Sunday. 

The 270 mph Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car take to the track on Saturday making their qualifying runs at 1 and 5 pm, that will set their fields for Sunday’s elimination rounds. 

Highlighting Saturday’s action will be the NHRA Moser Sportsman Shootout, a specialty race that pits drivers from seven different classes in head to head competition with $15,000 up for grabs.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Beech Bend Raceway Park host the final race in the Lucas Oil North Central division on August 26-28. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Brodix/Steve Schmidt Top Sportsman Series and Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster Series will also run in conjunction with the event.

Saturday’s action will be highlighted by the Moser Sportsman Shootout that will pit racers from seven entirely different classes against each other in head to head competition with $15,000 up from grabs. The top points earners in seven classes, along with two wild card entries will make up the 16-car field. Round one is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Qualifying and time trials are scheduled Friday at 9 a.m. and continue on Saturday at 8 a.m. Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Comp Eliminator qualify Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualify Saturday at 1 and 5 p.m. Eliminations continue on Sunday at 8 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car’s first round of eliminations begin at noon.

Tickets for Beech Bend Raceway Park are $20 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. Children 12 years and under are admitted free with a paid adult.

NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND
: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2016 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA’s seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from Jegs High Performance. The 2017 Jegs Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series’ eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2017 Jegs Allstars to be held at the 2017 K&N Filters NHRA Route 66 Nationals. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning division and regional teams will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, Jegs High Performance, is offering a “double up” bonus to Jegs Allstars participants. Any 2017 Jegs Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

DRAW/RFC Super Eliminator Shootouts presented by Moser Engineering: The top 8 qualifiers in Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street compete in special Shootouts presented by Moser Engineering that benefit DRAW (Drag Racing Association of Women) and RFC (Racers For Christ). Qualifying and eliminations take place on Friday.
