VP Race of Champions crowned in opening day of NHRA Summit Racing Series Finals

Opening day action at the North Central Division NHRA Summit Racing Series Finals featured the VP Racing Fuels Race of Champions, a race within a race pitting the top points-earning drivers from each track in head-to-head competition.  Chris Bear, Clayton Clark, Mike Clancy Jr. and Ryan Cueni captured the victories and biggest share of the $5,200 purse plus VP Racing fuel.

In the Super Pro Race of Champions, Bear representing Summit Motorsports Park took the win with a time of 4.886 seconds at 138.98 mph. over Darren Keener from Windy Hollow Dragway.  Defending division Summit Racing Series Pro ET Champion Clark, driving for Beech Bend Raceway Park defeated Robby Mayne who came from London Dragway.

 

Clancy Jr. from Edgewater Sports Park drove his Gremlin to a 12.275 second run which gave him the Race of Champions win in Sportsman over Jeff Lathrop from Action City Dragway USA.  Cueni representing Thompson Raceway Park rode his Suzuki VP Race of Champions to the motorcycle win as Bob Boruta representing Mid-Michigan Motorplex fouled on the start.

 

The best of the best in the NHRA's North Central Division Summit Racing Series have come to O'Reilly Raceway Park to compete for individual as well as team honors at the 2007 Summit Racing Series Division Finals. The event continues Saturday with a final time trial session and the first round of eliminations.  Champions will be crowned Sunday in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman and Super Pro Bike as well as a High School category.

 

Sunday's winners in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, and Pro Bike will advance to a national run-off in November at the NHRA Auto Club of Southern California Finals at Pomona Raceway in Pomona, Calif.  The $118,000 NHRA Summit Racing Series national championship matches the four champions from each of the seven NHRA geographic divisions.
